ORIGINAL MESSAGE

We are all very conscious that tropical Cyclone Alfred is slowly making its way towards the coast of SE Queensland and is expected to make landfall around sunrise tomorrow.
Those living on the coastal strip—and especially those in the islands—will likely experience the direct impact of the cyclonic winds, while the coastal beaches have already been devastated by the pounding seas stirred up the cyclone. For us, being that little further inland, the most significant impact is likely to be extremely heavy rainfall and resulting flooding.
It is impossible to predict with any confidence just how this cyclone will impact us in Ipswich, but it is possible that we shall need to cancel all Sunday services in the parish. Of course, it is also possible that people may not be able to safely access the church in any case due to local flooding in their part of the city.
We shall make a final call on the Sundays services once we have seen how this extreme weather event unfolds in the next 24 hours. Please an eye on our Facebook page or this website for any updates:

However, in case we loose power or internet services, it seems wise to send out some resources that you may find helpful if you are needing to offer your Sunday prayers at home this weekend.
Please use this link to access the Sunday service booklet for this weekend, so you can still read through the service, reflect on the readings and (if you have a hymnbook at home) read the songs we would have been singing this Sunday.
from these links you can see a sermon prepared by Bishop Cam and another prepared by Lorraine Lynch.
If the services are cancelled but we still have power and internet, I will offer an online version of the Sunday service at 8.30am. This will use the live video function on Facebook, so keep an eye out for this at the usual link for that special form of the service:

In the meantime, please do keep an eye on the Ipswich City Council Emergency Dashboard for the latest local cyclone information:

This can be a very stressful time for people, especially if they are isolated from family and friends, so please take the time to sit calmly in prayer and rest in God’s love. You may also find these online resources helpful:
